Hi board game geeks! My name’s Doddy and I’m here to help you ‘Kickstart’ your game collection by navigating the choppy waters of crowdfunding campaigns! I’ll be looking at which games deserve your gold and which you should avoid like an orc encampment! On today’s edition we’ll be looking at Dungeonology: The Expedition from Ludus Magnus Studios.
The pen is mightier than the sword!!! Or some would have you believe. Ludus Magnus Studios bring us Dungeonology: The Expedition. A game where you all compete to become the next professor at the University of Rocca Civetta.
In Dungeonology the heroes will explore new places and their inhabitants with the aim of discussing their thesis and becoming the new professor in their own field of expertise. It’s an atypical dungeon crawler where the goal is not to free the area from hordes of furious and terrifying monsters, collecting huge stashes of treasure or magical weapons; to the contrary, our heroes’ job will be to study habits, take notes and stay undercover.
The Scholar who gathers the most or best quality information can discuss their thesis, getting themselves promoted to the role of professor. A clear quote from the project that I could not describe any better. Go exploring from base camp and flip over the relevant level tile. Then line it up with one of the entry points to the camp and away you go. If you’re unable to place the tile legally then you can discard and draw another until you find one that is suitable. Once the tile is placed you follow the rules to placing the necessary items and knowledge blocks there. Earn that knowledge or face the jinx cards which will become a massive burden.
Beware, others will seek that knowledge and have tricks up their sleeves. These cards play like sabotage cards to hinder your mission and stop you writing your thesis. Knowledge is power!!! But, there’s no rules stating which knowledge is better so you may as well make it yours.
A pledge of about £68 (€79) will get you the base game and all the stretch goals along the way. Or for the value for money and a little bit more things for approximately £91 (€105) you get the Circe expansion as well which provides more options, items, studies and foes.
Pledge ends on May 1st 2019. Check out the campaign here.
